CRCDS President Dr. Marvin A. McMickle received the Making Democracy Work Award from the League of Women Voters of the Rochester Metropolitan area on Thursday, June 15, 2017. Dr. McMickle was honored along with The Honorable Louise Slaughter at the League’s Annual Meeting at the Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, political organization which encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The Making Democracy Work award recognizes and honors a member of the community who is a role model for leadership, collaboration and commitment to partnering with individuals and groups to effect positive societal change. Dr. McMickle, a member of Unite Rochester, the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative, the Interfaith Alliance and other groups, has spoken on behalf justice and equality for all in scores of blog posts, opinion pieces, Letters to the Editor and media interviews.
