Rev. Chester Freeman (CRDS ’80) began work three years ago on getting an historic marker for Austin Steward, an abolitionist from the Geneva, NY area. Steward never received the recognition of fellow abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, however he was equally as important.
On Friday, February 15, 2019, on the anniversary of Austin Steward’s death, a marker was unveiled at the Ontario Historic Society.
