Board of Trustees Recruitment

Here you will find the materials that allow for the nomination of prospective trustees, who, if elected,  would begin serving July 1, 2022. 

Please note the timeline and the list of gifts, skills and experiences that we are most interested in adding to the Board. 

TIMELINE:
December 2021 – Send call for nominations, nomination form and skill-set inventory to all Trustees with March 1 deadline.  
 
March 1, 2022 – President, Board Chair and Chair of Board Practices Committee vet nominations and conduct due diligence.
 
April 20, 2022 – President, Board Chair and Chair of Board Practices report to the Board Practices Committee with recommendations.
 
April 27, 2022 – Chair of Board Practices reports Board Practices Committee recommendations to the Executive Committee.
 
May 20, 2022 – Chair of Board Practices introduces prospective Board candidates as they attend the May 20, 2022 Board meeting.  Chair of Board Practices confers with candidates after the Board meeting to gauge their continued interest.
 
June 2022 – Special meeting of the Board is convened for the election of new Board members, Board officers and the reelection of continuing Trustees.
 
July 1, 2022 – New Trustees are seated.

GIFTS & SKILLS: 

We seek diversity in:

  • age

  • vocation, with emphasis on:
    • advocacy
    • college president, preferably at an HBCU
    • CPA
    • financial advisor
    • governance models
    • HR, particular experience in benefits and employee wellness
    • race relations
    • strategic planning
    • trauma response

Interested candidates should understand that the process will be most earnest in the early months of 2022, so if some time passes between conversations it should not be misinterpreted as a lack of interest on our part.  As you consider making a nomination, please help us identify individuals who hold significant leadership positions in the business, education, nonprofit and other professional fields both in the western New York region and beyond.
