On behalf of the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (CRCDS) community, Rev. Angela D. Sims, PhD announces the passing of two esteemed former faculty members.
Rev. Richard A. Henshaw, PhD passed away on October 16th. Dr. Henshaw was named CRCDS Faculty Emeritus after many years as professor of the Old Testament. The family is planning a memorial service for spring, and we will share service information when it becomes available.
Dr. James A. Sanders passed away on October 1st. Dr. Sanders served as the Joseph B. Hoyt Associate Professor of Old Testament Interpretation from 1954 to 1965. He became a leading light in Biblical studies with a brilliant career of research, which included pioneering work with the Dead Sea Scrolls. Our hearts and prayers are with Dr. Henshaw’s and Dr. Sanders’s family during this difficult time.
I had Dr. Sanders for only one year, 1964-1965—-my first year at what was then CRDS. He taught an Introduction To The Old Testament Course to first year seminarians.
Dr. Sanders had that rare combination of scholar and teacher. He compelled us to a high academic standard while consistently making the session interesting. He pulled you into the subject matter. I was sorry to see him go to Union the following year but never forgot his teaching.
Sadden about the news. Both families are in my prayers.
