University Baptist Church of Amherst, in a suburb of Buffalo, NY, is seeking a bi-vocational pastor. We are a small, international, multi-ethnic, cooperative Baptist church near the campus of the State University of New York at Buffalo. We have a history of Bible study, worship, and ministry with refugees of several people groups and students from several countries. The candidate should have a seminary degree, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and grow with the congregation. The church owns a good church building and property and is debt free. Church has partially furnished 3 bedroom parsonage with water and gas provided. The scripture represents as well as any we know, the mission of FBC. We are not now, and never have, been a common entity with a single mission. However, we have always been committed to local and international mission.

• 1834- Our congregation was formed and our missions began
• Our First Baptist mission was built on the beliefs of our first Pastor Amos Russell Wells, a prominent abolitionist. (Underground Railroad)
• We supported the women’s suffrage movement
• Temperance movement by drinking grape juice instead of wine
• Support of military families
On December 12th 2010 Congregational Forum was held to discuss the future of the church. Here are some Highlights:
• This is our place of worship, to love and serve. To learn, grow, and share our faith, as part of community together and in our outreach through missions.
• Follow Jesus and bring his teachings to the community of Glens Falls and to provide a community of acceptance.
• To worship, have fellowship with each other and fulfill our spiritual needs.
• To reach out to the community and serve the Lord by worshipping, learning and helping others in our neighborhood and around the world with physical and spiritual needs.
• It’s a welcoming church; we come to give expression to our faith as one body.
• Our Baptist faith allows people the freedom to interpret the Bible, and express their belief and faith in their own way.
From this meeting a transformation committee was formed to help define a path for the congregation.

• Go forth to meet the community, and be a witness for Christ through our actions.

• Thinks meetings are a means to ministry.
• Depends on Jesus- provision follows vision.
• Sees the lost as an end in and of themselves. The lost are people to be loved, and our reason for trying to save them is that they are loved by Christ.

WHAT IS DRIVING THIS CHURCH?
• Following an intentional church wide transformation process will help us determine our pastoral and worship models
• Interpreters of our faith for the 21st century and beyond.
From this journey the congregation decided to continue in our location and follow a missional model. As of March of 2012, First Baptist is taking part in a Missional Church Learning Experience with
Rev. Glynis LaBarre.
We are a church in the center of a small city. However, we are not currently reaching our neighborhood and looking for someone to help us with this mission. Glens Falls is located in the foothills of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. “Glens Falls is full of things to do for you and your family. Our small but sophisticated little city will surprise you with the variety of museums, festivals, theater, recreational activities, concerts, as well as great shopping and restaurants for all tastes and budgets. Charming architecture with friendly people make Glens Falls a “must visit” when touring our region” ( http://visit.cityofglensfalls.com/).
Our church membership is at 90, with resident active 71, inactive 15 and weekly attendance of 60 to 65. Our members come from many different distances but the greatest number live within a 1-5 mile radius of the church.
Our congregation was formed and our missions began in 1834. We are an old established downtown church with strong roots in our community. In the future, we want to be a more missional church. Our goal is to show the community that we are here to help them.
First Baptist is involved in various denominational events:
• Biennial American Baptist Churches
• Annual regional meetings
• Area church association meetings
• Camping/ conference programs
• Sharing our facilities with St. Mary Catholic church
• Arts through Religion programs
• Missional Church Learning Experience
There is a broad range of ages in membership (Age 5 to Age 101). The majority tends to be retired people widowed living alone. The other two large categories of our membership are married with no children living at home and married with 1 or more children.
Our congregation is composed of employed and unemployed blue/ white collared workers. Our Members earnings range from nothing to a few households earning over 90,000. The current economic times are difficult for our members and community with the help of a good leader, we are willing to follow God’s plans for us.
Our church organization has been restructured and change due a decrease in membership. Communication and organization of how the church operates is currently going through a period of confusion, but we are moving forward to discover how to improve our path through Missional process.

Pastor’s Job Description
The pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, to provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life, and to act as the chief administrator of the paid staff.
1.Pastor will act as a spiritual leader
2. Plan and conduct the worship services; prepare and deliver sermons; lead in
observance of ordinances.
3. Lead the church in an effective program of witnessing and in a caring ministry for
persons in the church and community.
4. Visit members and prospects.
5. Conduct counseling sessions; perform wedding ceremonies; conduct funerals,
and Baptistism with classes.
6. Serve as ex-officio member on the Church boards to help lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total church program.
7. Work with deacons, church officers, trustees and committees as they perform their
assigned responsibilities; train and lead the deacons in a program of family ministries.
8. Act as support to running of church business meetings.
9. Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of
mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational
development; represent the church in civic matters.
