Pastoral Candidate Application

Historic Pilgrim Baptist Church, an African American Baptist Church in Hamilton, seeks to identify the Shepherd whom God has called to be our Pastor. Pilgrim Baptist Church Hamilton, Ohio was, organized in 1919; it’s a Church with a rich history in the Hamilton community. Pilgrim Baptist Church is an established church strategically located in the urban Hamilton community in southwest Ohio. After forty six years of faithful service, our beloved pastor was called to his eternal reward on August 31, 2011. In our ninety three years of existence, Pilgrim Baptist Church has only had six pastors.

Our congregation consists of 260 soldiers for Christ. Our Pastor will be a true believer, a seminary graduate who is a preacher and teacher rightly dividing the WORD. Our Shepherd will answer GOD’s call to lead and guide the flock at Pilgrim in the next chapter of our spiritual journey and growth in Christ. We are seeking a Pastor to lead the congregation and demonstrate 1) an enthusiastic love for preaching, teaching and praying; 2) a commitment to minister to the sick and shut-in; 3) an ability to embrace and include outreach ministries for the local community and; 4) an active commitment to cooperate with and support District and Local Associations. The Pastor is responsible to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, to provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life, and to act as the chief administrator of the church’s paid staff.

Our Pastor along with the Deacons and Board of Trustees will have general oversight of the shepherding of the congregation so that the Body is built up and equipped to do the work of Jesus Christ.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will meet the following minimum criteria:
The preferred candidate should possess a minimum of 3-5 years of pastoral experience
A college bachelor’s degree; seminary training (master’s degree in some aspect of theological study) from an accredited school of religion
Ministerial license and ordination license
Must be a recognized leader and visionary, possessing integrity and honesty
Must be a pastor to the entire congregation and be compassionate, warm, friendly and have a sense of humor
Possess solid preaching, teaching, leadership and discipleship skills
Live a representative life based on clear biblical principles
Support and commit to the Pilgrim Baptist Church Covenant, By-Laws and Mission Statement
Give indication of sturdy and healthy family relationships
Be spiritually motivated, proactive and take strides of faith when directed to do so by God
Be devoted to minister in the Hamilton, Ohio community
Be faithful to local, state, and national missions
Must be supportive of women who are called to pastoral ministry

Ranges of Accountability:

The Pastor should:

Influence and train members and ministry team leaders
Provide pastoral leadership for discipleship, evangelism, outreach, and fostering healthy relationships in the church
Provide leadership for church worship services
Commitment to minister to the sick and shut-in
Upkeep the ministries of the church
Offer pastoral counseling
Administer weddings, funerals, baptisms and community worship opportunities as deemed appropriate; performs children’s dedications as requested
Responsible for the overall administration of the church on a day to day basis, including overseeing the Administrative staff
Direct the implementation and execution of provisions of the church Constitution and the approved policies of the church
Leader of the welfare and oversight of the Church
Preside over Annual Church Business Meeting and all meetings stated in the Church’s constitution
Lead the congregation, all church organizations and the Church staff in performing their duties
Lead the Church in worship services and the observance of ordinances (Baptism and The Lord’s Supper)
Lead the Church in education and pastoral ministry (Bible Study, Sunday School, and Prayer Meeting)
Work closely with Deacons and other leadership to manage the many resources both human and financial
Lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the Church ministries
